Lancashire Disability squad take to the pool
The Lancashire Disability squad this year have started their pre-season training by taking to the pool literally. In order to raise fitness levels and provide different opportunities and facilities to train the squad for the first time trained by having a session in a local swimming centre – Abraham Moss High School in North Manchester.
Incrediball team manager Dave Roscoe having just taken his Level 1 Swimming Coaching qualification was approached with the idea of increasing the fitness levels of both First and Incrediball (Second) Disability Teams. Following discussions and meetings between the Lancashire Disability coaching staff and swimming centre staff, arrangements were put in place to develop a training programme in the pool taking into consideration the needs of the disabled players.
Sunday the 7th February saw the first session take place, swimming coaches Eileen, Nadeen and Anthony along with Dave took well over half the disability squad through a structured training session assessing their ability to swim. After 45 minutes of structured swimming a small sided game of water polo was set up, this was enjoyed by all.
These sessions will continue at fort nightly intervals up until the outdoor nets start.
Dave would like to thank, on behalf of the Lancashire Disability Squads, Mark the Swimming Centre Manager, coaches Eileen, Nadeen and Anthony for their help and support in setting what he believes is a first for disability cricket.
