The development of DISTRICT (TOWN TEAM) CRICKET across the county has been a major priority of the LCB. Over the past few years there has been a massive increase in the amount of District Cricket being played with each of the three Cricket Partnership Groups across the county embracing this type of cricket. Alongside these developments the long-standing county-wide competitions have been controlled by the Lancashire Schools Cricket Association. 2009 will see major developments with regard to these County Competitions.
This year will see the Ainsworth Trophy for U15 District teams being expanded into a 50 over competition to mirror the equivalent ECB National Competition at that age group. Similarly the Hacking Cup (first played for in 1922) will expand into a 40 over version also based on the ECB version at that age group. The Under 11 competition for the Bob Hurst Rosebowl first introduced two years ago will also now be of 40 overs.
Each Cricket Partnership Group will organise their own competitions ensuring they are able to identify the Quarter Finalists by mid-July. The draws for each competition have already been made and can be found below. Once the Quarter Finalists have been identified then the draws will be updated to include the actual Districts involved. Until that time the Districts will be shown as below:
GM1 = Winner of the Greater Manchester West Division
GM2 = Winner of the Greater Manchester East Division
GM3 = Best Runner-Up from both Greater Manchester Divisions
LANCS1 = Winner of Lancashire Group 1
LANCS2 = Winner of Lancashire Group 2
LANCS3 = Winner of Lancashire Group 3
LANCS4 = Best Runner-Up across all 3 Groups
MERSEY = Winner of Merseyside Competition
