Clubmark: The ECB continues to work with Sport England on the pioneering club accreditation scheme ‘Clubmark’ to develop a vibrant and healthy club cricket infrastructure. By registering to work towards ECB Clubmark, clubs join a growing number of cricket clubs across Lancashire, England and Wales that are prioritising junior development, creating a benchmark for high quality community club cricket. The LCB supports clubs through the ECB Clubmark process, however there are other organisation that also support clubs which include County Sports Partnerships (Greater Manchester Sports Partnership, Lancashire Sports Partnership and Merseyside Sports Partnership) and local Sports Development Units.
Cricket Development Groups: “Overseen by a Cricket Development Manager, a CDG is a group of people who come together to spare time and energy and take an ACTIVE part in the development of cricket in their local area.”
The people involved at a CDG could include: Cricket Development Manager, Cricket Club Representative, Junior Team Managers, District Team Managers, Cricket Coaches, Local School Teachers & School Sports Association Representatives, Umpires & Scorers, Groundsmen, County Sports Partnerships, Local Leagues, Local Authority Sports Development Officers and many more.
The aim of CDGs is to improve the standard of cricket within the Borough by producing and co-ordinating a Borough Cricket Development Plan and sharing good practice, resources and ideas.
Volunteers: Make a difference to your local club, even for those who don't want to play the game, there are almost limitless opportunities to get involved within club, school, district or league levels.
This could be designing the club's website, maintenance of the site, writing media releases for the local press, assist in preparing the ground and wicket for the fixtures or even starting on the road to becoming the next future England coach!
And that can work just as well if you have family members or friends already involved or playing, and are keen to join them; or have no previous connection with cricket in any way, shape or form.
Volunteers are vital to the health and development of grassroots cricket. Without them, the future of the beautiful game at all levels would be in jeopardy.
You can make a difference - be involved.
