New Lancashire Coaching Scheme Launched

The Lancashire Cricket Board are pleased to launch the new Lancashire Coaching Scheme (LCS). After much preparation the LCS is hitting the ground running in January 2012.

As the Governing Body for cricket in Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside responsible for promoting the game of cricket at all levels, the LCS is going to give young cricketers the opportunity to learn, improve and enhance their skills and knowledge of the game.  It aims to attract both Primary (years 4, 5 and 6) and Secondary (years 7, 8 and 9) ages providing them with 8 weeks of coaching at foundation or advanced levels taking place at various clubs/venues across the County.

The LCS is designed to bring coaching to you!  At foundation level it will provide cricketers with tools to develop their basic technique whilst the advanced level will provide the opportunity for young cricketers to receive development plans and strategies using video analysis to improve their game.

The LCS is running a pilot year in 2012 with Foundation courses available to both Primary and Secondary ages and eventually adult courses in the future.

Andrew Hayhurst (LCB Director) said:  "This programme has been introduced as we have received a huge amount of interest in recent times regarding coaching courses. This stems from the massive increase in cricket participation amongst youngsters over the past few years due to the Chance to Shine programme and our own efforts. We are also challenged by ECB to be more self sufficient and not rely on national programmes as a source of funding. We hope to be able to expand this programme beyond its pilot year and provide opportunities for all youngsters, in every region of Lancashire, at all levels, to access the game."

Bookings now available

The Lancashire Coaching Scheme is now available for bookings. Please download brochure with full details of courses, venues, prices and on how to make bookings. In the near future people will be able to pay for courses from this website.

The is excellent news. I do think that we in Lancashire have got it right having seen most of the current county championship team come through from junior cricket within Lancashire club cricket.

This new enhanced scheme will give many opportunities to young boys and girls to get involved in cricket, to develop personal skills which will be with them for life, and to strengthen local club cricket.

I will certainly be keenly watching how these young players develop and perform when I'm out in the middle with the white jacket on.

Well done all at LCB.

Thanks Ted.
It is not solely to find talent but to provide opportunities for the 1000s that we coach. However, there will be some that we unearth that make it really rewarding.

As Director, I appreciate you taking the time to post your positive comments.

Regards

This is brilliant news, it gives the opportunity for the young ones to enhance their skills, it also takes the coaching to the young ones to another level, adding to what they are coached at club level.
This can only be a good thing.
WELL DONE

My 13 year old son has attended a number of coaching courses over the last few years at various venues. His batting development most notably improved when he took a five week specialised course at the Lancashire indoor school last year. Not only were his technical skills improved, but coaches also worked on his mental approach to the game, leading to more confidence and greater performances during the season.

This new initiative will, I believe, be of similar assistance to him and is great value at £62 for 12 hours coaching by Lancashire staff. I would urge parents whose children are interested in the game to take this opportunity to bring out the best in their abilities and book them on a course. As you watch them develop over the weeks, as I did with my son, you will look forward to the Summer evenings with even greater anticipation. Just do it!!
