MCC Summer Camp a hit with girls in Burscough
The MCC came to Burscough CC on the 25th and 26th August.
Local girls from West Lancashire took part in a ‘Spirit of Cricket’ Summer Camp where England cricketers Beth Morgan and Danielle Hazel were on hand to pass on their experience to the girls. The sun shone and 40 girls enjoyed two days of coaching and competition delivered as part of MCC Spirit of Cricket and Chance 2 Shine initiatives. The Thursday saw coaching groups working on batting, bowling and fielding skills in fun and exciting exercises and games led by local coaches and the England players. Girls were then split into teams for the Friday ‘World Cup’ and came back with banners, face paint and fancy dress encapsulating their chosen nation. The day finished with a question and answer session, a fantastic opportunity for the girls to pick the brains of Beth and Danielle and go away enthused to pursue their own cricketing ambitions.
The camp was led by LCB Development Coach (West Lancashire) James Cutt who commented: “Our thanks go to Beth, Danielle, the MCC, Chance 2 Shine and Burscough CC for making this a great two days for the girls, the concept of the camp and the way the Spirit of Cricket message is delivered is fantastic and all the girls seemed to really enjoy themselves. It is hoped that many of the girls can now be signposted into club and district cricket programmes.”
