Colne Cricket Club Launches Academy
Colne Cricket Club has today announced the launch of Colne Cricket Academy, aimed at attracting youngsters under the age of 16 in to the sport. The Academy’s first event will be a three week Summer Camp during the school holidays.
The Summer Camp, which will run from August 12-30th has been funded by County Councillor Paul White, who awarded almost £1000 for the venture from his Local Members Grant.
Cricket Club Chairwoman Jane Williamson said: “We’re delighted to launch this initiative as part of our future club development programme. We want to get more young people playing cricket and find our next generation of players for The Horsfield.
“Youth development is something I want to bring to the fore. The Academy will be led by our South African professional, Shadley van Schalkwyk, an ECB Level 2 coach, alongside Chris Gill and Brad Ramshead. They make a great team because they are all so passionate about developing our next generation and here at Colne we want to give the youngsters a real chance."
County Councillor Paul White added: “I was delighted to support this great Academy. The Summer Camp will not only get the young people of East Lancashire out in the summer, learning a sport and keeping healthy, but it will get people involved in the sport on a longer term basis and will also help parents with childcare during the summer holidays."
The Summer Camp will be open from 9am-5.15pm Monday to Friday between 12th and 30th August and will be hosted at The Horsfield, Colne Cricket Club’s ground. It is open to boys and girls from 8-16years.
To book on the Academy Summer Camp go to www.facebook.com/ColneCricketAcademy. Academy brochures will also be distributed through all schools in Pendle.
