A Golftastic day out!!
Not even the wettest April on record could put a dampener on this year’s LCB Golf Day.
This year’s competition was held at the picturesque Leigh Golf Course in Culcheth near Warrington, a par 70 parkland course that would test any golfer. 22 teams took part in the day, including teams from local Cricket Development Groups, Cricket Clubs and Businesses from across the North West.
Golfers were greeted on the day by LCB staff helping with the organisation of the day and the smell of Leigh Golf Club’s infamous breakfast bar. Bacon, sausage and egg sandwiches all washed down with tea and coffee, preparation enough for a gruelling 18 holes of hard competition!
The competition format on the day was a 4 ball competition with the best 2 stable ford scores counting on each hole.
The winning team Rochdale CC skilfully managed to plot their way around a tricky course. They had to deal with the undulating greens and difficult pin positions which culminated in a fantastic round of 13 under (85 points). ADT Workplace (last year’s winners) came a creditable 2nd with a 9 under (81 points), Kevin Horton’s team, who were representing Paul Horton Flooring came 3rd with 8 under (80 points) and Burnley Cricket Development Group coming 4th with a very creditable 78 points (6 under).
The Main prizes up for grabs this year were, 4 platinum tickets to a Salford City Reds match, 4 Nike Golf Stand Bags, a round of golf for 4 at Formby Hall and Spa sponsored by O2 and 4 Lancashire County Cricket Club training t-shirts sponsored by Kukri. Other prizes included LCB Golf day t-shirt and jumper for the nearest the pin and nearest the pin in 2 competition.
