ASDA Kwik Cricket for 2013 Launched
The official launch of the 2013 ASDA Kwik Cricket Competition in Lancashire took place at Emirates Old Trafford today (Wednesday 8 May).
Emirates Old Trafford played host to over 3,000 schoolchildren from the North West of England on Day Two of Lancashire's LV= County Championship match against Essex. The day was part of ‘The Lancashire Way’ an exciting joint project which Lancashire County Cricket Club, LCCC Foundation and the Lancashire Cricket Board are undertaking throughout 2013.
During the lunch interval pupils from four schools participated in an ASDA Kwik Cricket competition on the outfield. Prizes were presented by LCCC Cricket Director Mike Watkinson who is also the ASDA Kwik Cricket Ambassador for Lancashire during 2013.
Shaun Anders (Competitions Officer) said: "We at the Lancashire Cricket Board look forward to working with all our partners in delivering another quality ASDA Kwik Cricket Competition for Primary Schools. Each year the competition grows and I am hoping we see lots of new schools taking part."
Asda Kwik Cricket in Lancashire
Lancashire has 27 boroughs (Local Authorities) within the county and each hold a number of ASDA Kwik Cricket competitions, those being Year 6 Mixed, Years 4 & 5 Mixed and an All Girls Competition. The local District competitions produce a winner that comes through to our County Final Days which this year will be held at Unsworth CC on Tuesday 25th June (All Girls), Northern CC on Friday 28th June (Year 6 Mixed) and at St Helens CC on Friday 12th July (Years 4 & 5 Mixed).
During last year’s competition Lancashire achieved more than 50% of all primary schools take part. This is one of the biggest percentages in the country. Our Year 6 Mixed County Final has 32 schools competing with 4 going on to the Regional Finals to represent Lancashire.
The competition has grown over the years and ASDA have played a huge part in that success. Within every ASDA store there is an ‘ASDA Community Life Champion’, whose role is to engage within the local community (primary / secondary schools) to promote healthy living / lifestyles. They also attend local competitions and provide fruit and refreshments to the schools that take part. The ECB has made significant strides in partnering with ASDA over the last few years and their involvement adds a huge amount of value to what we try to achieve within this competition.
