Orrell St James from Wigan Win Lancs Y6 Kwik Cricket Competition 2014
Orrell St James’ RC Primary School from Wigan emerged as the worthy County Champion of the prestigious ECB Year 6 Kwik Cricket Competition 2014. Casterton Primary School from Burnley were the Runners Up. Both schools will be representing Lancashire in the National Finals on 16th July 2014 at Harrogate Cricket Club, Yorkshire.
31 schools from all parts of the Lancashire, representing as their district winners, participated in the ECB Year 6 Kwik Cricket County Finals at Northern Cricket Club on Thursday 26th June 2014.
The standard of cricket on display was very high and reflects the progress that has been made in raising the standard of cricket in Lancashire primary schools through Chance to Shine and other initiatives. Lancashire County Cricket Club mascot ‘Lanky’ also made an appearance and children enjoyed his company. All teachers were extremely complementary of the arrangements on the day and the fantastic opportunity this tournament provides to the children to compete and learn throughout the County through cricket.
Rudra Singh, LCB's Education Manager said: “The 2014 ECB Year 6 Kwik Cricket Lancashire County Final day is the pinnacle for the thousands of primary school children who have already taken part in this competition this season through their district festivals. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all Teachers, Schools Games Organisers, Sports Development Officers, Cricket Development Groups and our Local Clubs that provide quality facilities at both local and county level. I would also like to say a big thank you to Northern Cricket Club and all their staff for their continued support in providing an excellent environment for the Lancashire Kwik Cricket County Finals. Finally, my congratulation goes to all schools in making the county finals, but I must give Orrell St James’ RC Primary School a special mention for not only winning this tournament but also being the joint County Winners of the Lancashire Girls Kwik Cricket Tournament. A big Well Done to the boys & girls and the teachers at Orrell St James!”
