Mayfield Primary Win Y4 & 5 Mixed Kwik Cricket Tournament 2014
Mayfield Primary School from Oldham are the Lancashire Champions of the ECB Year 4 & 5 Mixed Kwik Cricket Competition 2014. They defeated Earby Springfield Primary School from Pendle in an exciting final.
15 schools from all parts of the Lancashire, representing as their district winners, participated in the ECB Year 4 and 5 Mixed Kwik Cricket County Final at Longridge Cricket Club on 11 July. Standard of cricket on display was very high and reflects the progress that has been made in raising the standard of cricket in Lancashire schools through the Chance to Shine programme and other Lancashire Cricket Board initiatives.
Dave Reddy, LCBs Education Officer, commented: “A thoroughly enjoyable day of cricket for so many young boys and girls competing at this level for the first time. The competition was of excellent standard with plenty of 4’s and 6’s hit. I hope that next year we continue to grow and inspire more boys and girls to play the game."
Rudra Singh, LCB's Education Manager, said: “The 2014 ECB Year 4 & 5 Mixed Kwik Cricket Lancashire County Final is day which is the highpoint for many school children who have already taken part this season through their district festivals. This particular event provides both girls and boys below Years 4 & 5 their first competitive opportunity at this level. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all Teachers, Schools Games Organisers, Sports Development Officers and Cricket Development Groups. A special thanks to our Clubs that provide quality facilities at both local and county level. May I also thank Longridge Cricket Club for their continued support in providing excellent facilities and environment for Lancashire junior competitions.”
