Congratulations to Urmston Grammar School’s Girls U15s side and to St Antony’s High School Girls U13s team for winning their respective tournaments at GH Carnell Sports Centre yesterday (05 February) in this year’s Lady Taveners Indoor Schools Competition.

Both teams have now qualified for this year’s County Finals being held on ‘home soil’ for both teams – GH Carnell Sports Centre.

In the U13s Competition, St Antony’s just edged De La Salle High School (St Helens) to the winning spot both teams winning 3 out of  their 4 games, but it was St Antony’s just going through by the narrowest of margins on wickets taken throughout.

In the U15s Competition Urmston Grammar had it mostly their own way in the group stages winning both of their group games and then playing against a strong Lowton High School in the Semi Final winning that by 4 wickets. The other side of the draw had the experienced De La Salle School from St Helens taking on a very athletic Lowton High School (Wigan) with local side St Antony’s making up the 3 teams. De La Salle came out top of that group and played Stretford High in a very exciting semi-final, with Stretford winning in the last ball. In the final Urmston bowled first and restricted Stretford to just 58 runs from their 8 overs. Urmston went about the business of knocking off the score with power and precision as it only took the crack outfit 3.2 overs to surpass the Stretford score.

The Lancashire Cricket Board would like to thank GH Carnell Sports Centre for their fantastic hospitality one again and all the teachers and support staff for braving the weather and traffic!
