Balshaws win at Robin Park
Balshaws C of E High School (Leyland) won the U13s and U15s Lady Taveners Indoor local tournament at Robin Park Sports Centre yesterday (06 February) in Wigan.
Both teams have now qualified for this year’s County Final.
In the U13s Competition, Balshaws took on Cansfield High (Wigan) and Abraham Guest High School (Wigan) in their group stages with West Leigh High, St Peter’s Catholic High School and St John Fisher (all Wigan) making up group 2. Balshaws won their group with Abraham Guest in second place. In group 2 St Peter’s won 2 from 2 with West Leigh High finishing runners up. Both Balshaws and St Peter’s overcame their opponents in the semi-finals setting up a final of in which both teams had won their respective group stages. St Peter’s put up a valiant fight, however all in vain as the very impressive Balshaws High won by a considerable margin.
The U15s competition saw a slight change of format as each side were asked to play each other. After watching their U13s win their competition Balshaws U15s were hoping to emulate their Y7 & Y8 school team who earlier in the day had won their respective tournament. As the early games panned out it looked like local school West Leigh could halt the Balshaws bandwagon! The final game in the competition saw the eagerly awaited fixture of Balshaws v West Leigh High School with both sides having played 3 won 3. West Leigh put up a good fight but the class of the Balshaws bowling attack was the difference between the sides.
The Lancashire Cricket Board would like to thank Robin Park Sports Centre for their fantastic hospitality and of course to all the players, teachers and support staff.
