Top Competition to finish the week at Hyndburn
High standard of cricket to finish the week
Hyndburn saw day 5 of the competition and a great finish to the week it was!
The U13s tournament saw count back on both runs and wickets being used at the group stages to find our semi-finalists. Haslingden High vs Lostock Hall (Lostock winners) and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School (CRGS) vs St Wilfred’s (St Wilfred’s High winners). All round team efforts from these schools. Final between St Wilfred’s High and Lostock Hall saw Lostock bowl first and restrict St Wilfred’s to 63 for 3. Bronwyn being the star for St Wilfred’s with the bat. Tight bowling in the final over by Kia for Lostock saw just 5 runs coming in the over. Early wickets for St Wilfred’s slowed Lostock down however some good running by the middle order batters (Lucy/Alex/Kirsten) saw Lostock reach 67 for 3 with 14 balls to spare.
The U15s tournament saw more close competition and wickets galore. Group stages saw clear winners St Wilfred’s and CRGS go through to semi finals along with runners up Lostock Hall and Haslingden High. St Wilfred’s triumphed over Lostock Hall and CRGS triumphed over Haslingden High leaving a final between two highly experienced sides. Georgina Bolton starred with the bat for St Wilfred’s scoring 54. In the final St Wilfred’s batted first, Clitheroe took regular wickets but were set a tough total of 89 to win. St Wilfred’s took early wickets but couldn’t stop the middle order hitting the back wall. Contributions from all team members made this a great final and good talent on show. Well done to CRGS on getting over the line with just 5 balls to spare.
Thank you to Hyndburn Leisure Centre for their hospitality, all the schools who took part, teachers, students and supporters for making it such a good competition.
