Urmston Grammar & St Wilfrid's Through
Day 1 of the Lady Taverner's Girls Indoor schools competition started at Robin Park in Wigan on Wednesday 05 February.
With 5 schools, St Bede's, St Antony's, St Cuthbert's, St Wilfrid's and Urmston Grammar, competing in the U13 tournament in the morning and eventually winners qualifying by just 1 run in the final game of the morning it was a close fought competition.
Wins for St Bede's, St Wilfrid's and Urmston Grammar in their first games meant it was all to play for further into the competition. St Wilfrid's consistently scored 80 and 90 runs however were beaten in their match vs Urmston Grammar leaving it all to play for in the final games. Urmston Grammar beat St Bede's by just 1 run leaving them unbeaten and going through to the County Finals in the U13s age group.
U15s competition just had 4 teams with St Wilfrid's, St Cuthbert's, Canon Slade and St Bede's, however some top cricket was played. Some of the County U15 girls were involved in this competition giving some good battles peer to peer. Some big hitting from St Wilfrid's led to an unbeaten track through to the County Finals at this age group.
Well done to all schools, pupils and teachers for your efforts on the day. Thanks goes to Myerscough College and their students who are completing a Foundation Degree in Cricket Coaching for umpiring and scoring at the competition.
