Ormskirk School U15 Girls Win County Indoor Lady Taverners Final
The final girls indoor tournament was played at Robin Park whilst outside people were thinking about putting shorts on!
Tough competition for the girls with 2 England Under 15 girls playing and approximately 10 County players in the teams. Some excellent thinking cricket was played by all the teams along with powerful hitting and plenty of catches taken.
With 5 teams taking part, Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, Balshaws High, Urmston Grammar, Ormskirk School and St Wilfred's, we had a straight round robin tournament with the top team to progress through to the Lady Taverner's U15s School Indoor Regional Final.
Some close games throughout the day with games won on the last ball! Ormskirk stamped their mark early on scoring over 100 in most of their games and bowling teams out with ease. A well drilled side with the ability to bat all the way down the order and confidence to take chances when running between the wickets.
In the final game of the day, Balshaws could have caused an upset as a win for them would have meant a tie on points for them and Ormskirk with the winner decided by runs scored through the day. The final over saw some big hitting from Balshaws but they had left themselves too much to do falling 9 short of the target. That left Ormskirk unbeaten all day and through to the Regional Final.
Well done to all the girls that took part, some excellent cricket played and maybe some future stars on display. Thank you to the teachers and supporters and most importantly Myerscough College and their students for umpiring and scoring.
