Rivington & Blackrod HS Take U14s LSCA Title
The Lancashire Schools Cricket Association U14s County Cup Final was played at Stanley Park Blackpool on Wednesday the 24th June 2013 between Rivington & Blackrod High School and Lancaster Grammar School.
On a dry, sunny day Rivington won the toss and elected to bat first. After a slow start Rivington began to pick up the run rate and finished on a total of 150 all out in their 40 overs, thanks mainly to Marcus Haydock (23), Lewis Haydock (30) and a brisk (29) from Charlie Whittingham. Fraser-Gray with 4 for 31 and A Kumar with 3 for 16 were the pick of the Lancaster bowlers.
In reply the Lancaster early batsmen scored quickly but wickets fell and Lancaster found themselves at 83 for 5 with plenty of overs left. However, Rivington managed to take the game away from Lancaster with a superb hat-trick from Lewis Haydock, all bowled. Whittingham mopped up the tail and Lancaster were all out for 92. The best of the Lancaster batsmen were Atkinson (32no) and Fraser-Gray (16). Wickets takers for Rivington included Lewis Haydock (4 for 4 off 4 overs), Marcus Haydock (2 for 14), Charlie Whittingham (2 for 25) and Muneeb Ahmed (2 for 27).
An excellent result for Rivington who had battled hard to get through earlier rounds beating Bury Grammar School, Bolton School, Manchester Grammar School and Rainford High School on their way to the final. Thank you to the students and staff of Lancaster Grammar School for an excellent and sporting game, to Blackpool CC for use of their facilities for training and the umpires and members of staff from the LSCA.
