Sunday 17th February saw Indoor 6-a-side Lancashire County champions, Egerton CC play against the Shropshire champions, Condover CC.

The Inter County play-off game took place at the ECB funded Cricket Centre at St Bede’s High School in Ormskirk.

On winning the toss the Condover CC captain asked the Lancashire club to make first use of the crease. The ever impressive duo of Dudley and Hornby got Lancashire’s champs off to a reasonable start. Stuart Hornby was the first wicket to fall with the Egerton score at 14. Opener Dudley went on about his business in workman like fashion and was joined by the very impressive Egerton CC Wicket Keeper Danny Partington and it was the latter who retired on 25 with Dudley still at the crease, with the score at 66 after 8 overs. However some extremely accurate bowling towards the end from Condover’s M Griffiths reduced Egerton to 88 for 5. This meant that the retired Partington could play a further part in the innings and ended up being caught out off the last ball of the innings with an impressive 40 runs helping the Lancashire Champions to a competitive 104 all out.

The early Condover CC reply was encouraging as Elliot and Farr fended off the pace duo of Hornby and Clegg and scored at a reasonable rate in the opening overs. Elliot made an impressive 25 before being asked to retire with the score on track at 54 for 2 from 6 overs. Then 2 pieces of brilliance by the fielding team, a superb run out instigated by Stuart Hornby and a full length diving overhead boundary wall catch by Dudley lifted the whole Egerton team. Stafford and Captain Will Halton bowled wicket to wicket in the middle overs creating pressure on the Shropshire champions and with opening bowlers left to bowl the final overs proved to be too much for the Shropshire Champions.

Egerton finally rapping up the innings with 2 balls to spare (see scorecard).

Egerton now travel to Derbyshire CCC on Sunday 3rd March for the Regional Finals, 1 stop away from a potential National Finals at Lord’s!!

The LCB would like to thank both Egerton CC and Condover CC for the spirit in which they played the game, to St Bede’s Catholic High School for their facility and the umpires and scorers on the day.
