Incrediball squad defend their 10/10 title
25th July 2011 saw Lancashire Softball / Incrediball squad invited to play at Derbyshire Softball squad’s home ground for the annual 10/10 tournament as defending champions from 2010.
Lancashire arrived on a warm day at the Ground and received a warm welcome. There were four teams competing for the title and those were: Derbyshire Softball Team 1, Derbyshire Softball Team 2, Dovegate Softball, a team made up of police officers and Lancashire.
The first match started off proceedings with Derbyshire Team 1 beating Derbyshire Team 2 to progress to the final. Dovegate was Lancashire’s first match and Lancashire’s captain Tony Foster won the toss and decided to field. Callum Savage opened bowling and was very good at restricting Dovegate to a low score. The team were very sharp in the field and with the help of our bowlers Zak Green and particularly Tom Garrity, Dovegate were restricted to just 59 of the 10 overs. In reply Lancashire’s Stefan Holmes (17) and Aqib Javed (23 not out) got us to the perfect start as the target was reached with just an over to spare.
In the 3rd / 4th place match, Dovegate won the match against Derbyshire Team 2.
Lancashire took on Derbyshire Team 1 in the final and Tony Foster once again won the toss and elected to field. Callum Savage opened and was again very good as he finished his two overs with 2 wickets for 4 runs closely supported by Zak Green with figures of 1 wicket for 6 runs. Richard Holmes, Tom Garrity and Aqib Javed all bowled consistently, but the final over was bowled by Alan Foster gaining 1 wicket for just 3 runs. Derbyshire set Lancashire a target of 69 runs to win.
Stefan Holmes and Aqib Javed opened for Lancashire, but fell early. In went Pat Scott and Richard Holmes with Richard Holmes smashing a quick 27 off just 9 balls. The target was reached by Pat Scott and Jonny Simpson with 1.3 overs to spare to retain the trophy.
Overall it was an excellent day which raised the Derbyshire Softball squad over £400, but more importantly for Lancashire coming back with the trophy. Thanks must go to all who arranged a special day of cricket and Lancashire will be back next year to defend the trophy again.
