Karl Brown Visits Firwood School
Lancashire County Cricket Club’s Karl Brown was a surprise visitor at Bolton Wanderers Community Trust’s disability cricket sessions at Firwood School on Friday afternoon as he dropped in to meet the enthusiastic pupils taking part in the sessions.
The disability cricket sessions are currently being run by BWCT in partnership with Lancashire Cricket Board (LCB) and Bolton Council’s Sport and Active Living at both Firwood and Rumworth School for 7 weeks. Using the format of Street20 cricket to engage the pupils within the sessions, the 7 weeks of coaching offers the pupils the chance to play and experience cricket that otherwise they may not have been given. Pupils that want to continue playing cricket outside of these sessions will be offered the opportunity to attend ACC Masters; a new cricket team for disabled children and young people in Bolton. These sessions are run by the LCB’s Bolton Cricket Development Coach Chris Highton and ACC Masters staff.
Karl took an active part in the session, coaching the pupils giving them advice, tips and encouragement throughout. He then got involved in a game during the session having a bowl at the pupils before everyone was given the opportunity to have a bowl at him. To session concluded with Karl having photos taken with all the aspiring young cricketers.
Richard Slater Street20 coordinator said of the visit: “It was fantastic to get Karl Brown down to visit the disability session at Firwood. Karl has come down and actively joined in with the coaching whilst the pupils were given the chance to bowl at a current Lancashire county cricketer, something that will stay with them for a long time. This type of support offered by Lancashire Cricket Board is greatly appreciated with Karl Brown visiting Firwood School providing a great experience for all those involved, especially the pupils”.
