Lancashire's Got Talent
The LCB would like to support Lancashire County Cricket Club who are running a pilot scheme as part of its ‘Lancashire Way' project to identify talented young cricketers from an Asian background with a view to them being considered for selection within the representative age group programmes.
The ‘Asian Talent Search’ is open to players aged between 15 and 18 years old who live in Nelson, Burnley, Blackburn and Hyndburn and have not already been nominated for junior squad assessment sessions.
There will be trials held at Lowerhouse Cricket Club in Burnley on Monday 27th May with the first session taking place between 9:30am and 11:30am and the second session commencing at 12:30pm until 3pm.
LCCC and LCB coaches will be in attendance to identify potential talent with a view to inviting them back to Emirates Old Trafford for further trials.
Lead Coach Qasim Ali said: “We know there are many talented young cricketers from an Asian background in the region who are not on our player pathway. We hope the ‘Asian Talent Search’ will help us to identify players who have the potential to play first class cricket for the county.
“If this scheme is successful we hope to roll it out to other communities across Lancashire.”
Andrew Hayhburst, Managing Director of the Lancashire Cricket Board added: “The development of South Asian Talent is part of the National Strategy that kicks in from October 2013. Although this is very much part of the Lancashire Way, Sport England have provided specific funding to develop this part of the community, many of whom see cricket as their first sport. The LCB welcomes this development and appreciate the opportunity to run this initial programme through the joint venture with LCCC and the Foundation.”
