Lancashire Cricket Board: U13s triumph in Malvern U13s triumph in Malvern ================================================================================ Jenny Laycock on 19/08/2011 11:13:00 Some top performances give the girls confidence heading into National Semi finals The Annual trip to Malvern College for the U13s girls, myself, Chris Chambers and Tony Potter is completed with success. We faced Leicestershire, Somerset and Essex over the 3 days in 40 over games. The 40 overs allowed us to push the girls out of their comfort zone as they normally only play 30 overs. Day 1 and tiredness from the late night showed in the field, 24 wides bowled and some poor fielding allowed Leicestershire to post 192 all out. This was however not enough to prevent us taking game 1. An excellent run chase was composed and we knocked off the runs with 7 overs to spare losing just 3 wickets. Wednesday brought Somerset and a bumpy outfield to test our fielding! Batting first we posted 207 off 40 overs with a changed batting order. Somerset got off to a decent start with our openers going for 42 in first 8 overs. We pulled it back to 59 for 1 off 14. This wicket began the collapse and we ended up bowling them out for 112 in 33 overs. Day 3 and some very tired girls embarked on gaining boarding house dominance over Essex! Bowling first I was concerned we would struggle again in the field but a pre-match talk from myself and Chirs seemed to work and we bowled straight and fielded very well. 93 all out off just 24 overs meant a short game and an early return north. We knocked off the runs losing just 1 wicket in 16 overs. Performances: Day 1 vs Leicestershire Hannah Jones 5 for 29 off 8 Emma Lamb 90* Sami Fowler 39 Rachel Dickinson 28* Day 2 vs Somerset Abi Culshaw 72 Nalisha Patel 56 Emily Weetman 28* Emily Ball 2 for 0 off0.4 Emma Lamb 5 outfield catches Day 3 vs Essex Hannah Jones 4 for 16 off 4.5 Ellie Threlkeld 46* Sami Fowler 23* Well done to all the girls this week you played some excellent cricket.
