Well, that was the weekend that nearly wasn’t

This is me looking very relaxed on the balcony of our cabin in Le Havre, France
on Monday of this week.

It was freezing and just seconds after we escaped back in to our cabin the rain
hammered down.
We set off last Saturday for a wonderful Christmassy weekend on the good ship
Arcadia beginning with the Christmas markets in Brussels.
Things did not go entirely to plan. But Russell saved my bacon
Bad weather and gale force winds meant our scheduled call at Zeebrugge on Sunday
had to be cancelled. No Christmassy Markets in Brussels. Our call in Zeebrugge
was replaced by one in Le Havre. This meant we would spend two days in Le Havre.
Now Le Havre is not the bonniest of places especially when it is very windy,
very wet and very, very cold. Add to that the fact that it was closed on Sunday
and only half open on Monday then the whole host of brownie points I was hoping
to accumulate were in grave danger of disappearing down the pan.
Then along came Russell. He was due to give three shows to 1,600 passengers. We
were down to see him on Sunday night at 8.45pm in the Palladium Theatre – and
see him we did from very good seats in the Stalls. Now the Mrs thinks he is
wonderful and has all the CD’s. I have seen him before but do not get over
excited. I have to say on this occasion he was brilliant and thoroughly deserved
the standing ovation he got at the end. The missus was all aglow and in a good
mood – loads of added points. Well done Mr Russell Watson.
There were other added value points from the good food and wine we shared as
well.
Back home and the final piece in the jigsaw of fixtures was waiting for me in an
email from the Staffs Under 11 Manager. I will finalise my Fixtures Word
Document and get it sorted for Dipesh to place in prime position on the website.
I have an LSCA Executive Meeting at Old Trafford on Thursday to finalise all
sorts of other plans for District and Inter-Schools Comps for 2012.
Last but by no means least of all just before we left for our weekend crossing
the Channel and back I finished the first major draft of my LSCA history. I have
given a copy to Andy to see what he thinks. The good lady has read it through
and given it the OK as well.
