There is a pathway for umpires to reach the very top in officiating cricket. The Lancashire Cricket Board ACO (LCBACO) run courses in order to educate umpires and assist by mentoring and guiding those who wish to reach the highest level. Courses are run for beginners, league umpires, premier leagues & multi day officials. Level 1A is for those umpires who have umpired for at least a year and are seeking to progress. A course at this level was run at Warton Cricket Club in February led by Peter Robinson, Jeremy Rowe and John Smith. Fifteen umpires from a multitude of Leagues attended the course over two Sundays. Apart from covering some Laws of the game the umpires had the opportunity to take part in some 20 exercises aimed at testing and developing their skill & knowledge. They will now be assessed and monitored throughout the coming season prior to gaining their certificates.
