Emma Lamb Selected for England Women’s Development Programme

Vernon Carus's Emma Lamb has confirmed her status as one of the most promising
girl cricketers in Lancashire by being selected for the England Women's
Development Programme at Under 19 level.

Already the Lancashire Cricket Board's Girls Young Player of the Year, the
14-year-old batter's recognition by national selectors comes after a season in
which she made her debut for the county's women's first eleven, scoring 62
against the Netherlands.
But Lamb's ability has been attracting the notice of good judges since she first
joined the county ranks five years ago, when she made her debut for Lancashire's
Under 13 team.
A year later she scored her first fifty for Lancashire and made a century for
the county's Under 15 side this summer, a season in which she doubled her
previous season's aggregate of runs.
"Emma has reached many goals at a young age but doesn’t seem phased by the
situations in which she is asked to perform," said  Jenny Laycock, LCB Women’s
and Girls' Cricket Development Officer and Lamb's county captain.
"She has played key roles in many teams in 2012, has won player of the year for
a second time and was a member of the Under 17 squad whch won the national
championship.
"She is a well organised batter who prizes her wicket and has developed into a
player who has good game plans. She can time a run chase and step up the pace
when needed. Emma will be one of the younger members of the Under 19 development
squad but she has a great temperament and has reaped the rewards of her hard
work over the last few years."
Lamb's selection is also a feather in the cap of Vernon Carus, the Palace Shield
club where she first learned the game.
"Emma's been absolutely outstanding and accomplished in club cricket this summer
and that applies at senior level too," said the club's junior coach David Meloy
when Lamb received her player of the year award in September.
"The amount of composure she shows is remarkable, especially in someone so
young. She's played for our fourth team and opened for the thirds but she's not
fazed by playing against adults and I can't see any reason why she won't play
for our first team in due course."
Lamb is one of three Lancashire girls to be selected for the England Under 19
development squad. Three others have been chosen in the Under 15 age group,
confirming the high standing of Lancashire girls' cricket on the national stage.

“It's a fantastic achievement for all these girls to be recognised at these
levels," said Laycock. "It’s the result of hard work during the winter and
then putting it into practice during games.
