Lancashire Cricket Board: Lancashire Ladies fall to Worcestershire Lancashire Ladies fall to Worcestershire ================================================================================ Dipesh Asher on 07/06/2011 16:18:00 Despite some good performances with bat and ball Lancashire Ladies lose to Worcestershire at St Annes CC. A very cold windy day welcomed Worcestershire to St Annes CC for Lancashire Women’s second game of the season. Lancashire won the toss and put Worcestershire into bat. Some short bowling saw the visitors 81 for 0 off 20 overs. The introduction of spin brought the first wicket through an LBW by Alex Hartley. A well crafted 63 by Thea Brookes was ended by a lofted drive caught by Natalie Brown at mid on. A couple of quick wickets by the 2 spinners meant the score was 112 for 5. Megan Fairclough had an untidy first over but bounced back to bowl 3 maidens and take 4 wickets for just 19 runs off 7 overs. Some tight bowling again from Jenny Laycock with 10 over for 19 picking up 3 wickets along the way helped slow progress in the middle over. A quick fire 40 by Worcestershire’s number 9 (R Baldwin) took the score over the 200 mark. 202 was set for Lancashire to chase. A slow start saw us 14 off 8 overs, the following over a wicket was lost which brought Jessica Scothern and Jenny Laycock to the crease together. A partnership of 75 between these two took the score to 92 off 27 overs. The loss of Scothern for 46 was a blow but the scoreboard kept ticking over. With the score on 164 Jenny Laycock fell to the bowling of R Baldwin. Jessica Couser continued her good run of form scoring 22 not out and took the score within an arms distance. After the 49th over we were 193 with 3 wickets left. Chloe Wallwork chipped in with another handy 12 but the line could not be reach and we were bowled out for 198. A good batting display in places meant we gave ourselves the best chance to reach the 202 total. Unfortunately we allowed Worcestershire to score too many runs and left ourselves too much to do.
