Follow the Lancashire Schools Cricket Association (LSCA) Secretary's and LCB Board Member's blog here.

John is the current Secretary of the Lancashire Schools Cricket Association (LSCA) and a member of the LCB Executive. He is also responsible for the Levels of Excellence Scheme. His blogs will concentrate on the representative system at county and district level as well as looking at other LSCA activities.

His cricket playing career was spent entirely with Radcliffe Cricket Club where he was lucky to play with and against many great cricketing stars including Sir Gary Sobers. His involvement with LSCA began when he joined the staff of Radcliffe Secondary School in 1963 as the Head at the time was Chairman of the Association and roped him in immediately. Throughout his teaching career which ended in 2001 when he retired as Headteacher of Hayward School in Bolton he maintained his cricketing involvement. He became Secretary of LSCA in 1983. His son now plays for Greenmount CC and he was delighted to see his grandson selected as captain of the Lancashire Under 11 team this season.

Hi John
Hope you are well - do LSCA still put out the yearly handbook - you kindly sent me a couple some years ago.

Still in touch with David Leach who has been at Bury CC for many years and he occasionally sees Dave Beasley and Fred/Bill Allen - he also bumped into Larry Booth some time ago. We hope to have a reunion some time later this year with some of the old Radcliffe stalwarts

I did not know you were at/led the Hayward - we played them in the early 60's along with Canon Slade and was it Greenhill? - most schools we played were in the Oldham area and strangely Stockport School and Stockport GS - why no Bolton School also played Darwen, Wigan and QEGS

Why was it that when we played Schools Cricket at Haslingden GS, Bacup and Rawtenstall, Burnley, Accrington GS we were geographically distant from CLL in the afternoon - often a trip from Rossendale down to Stockport, Ashton etc

I was invited back to the Derby School a couple of years ago to hand out the prizes in Bury Town Hall - great fun

Keep in touch, Tony

I am coaching in a couple of schools in Croydon, one of which is used by Surrey for a couple of matches
