Tim springs a surprise on us all

As you can see from the picture

Last night all the 2011 season’s Under 11’s along with Mums, Dads, Grandmas, Grandads and others gathered at Leigh Cricket Club to look back on the season. The Heaton family minus Dad, who had to work, were there and pleased to see the friends we had made during the summer. The lads played a silly game of skittles whilst the elders tackled a quiz from John “Brentford” Hood. After a hot pot supper Tim "Minus Sunglasses" McKiernan handed out booklets, well actually Coach O’Rourke did the handing over, to each player individually with a nice comment about their season. The booklets contained Tim’s report, the results plus averages along with a set of Primary Records going back for 20 years.

After that little bit we were told to sit down as Tim had a big surprise for us. He had promised something at the start of the evening. Lo and behold who should walk into the room but Karl Brown clutching in his hands the LV County Championship Trophy.

Well done Tim – a coupe of epic proportions.

So everyone got to touch the trophy and in most cases have their picture taken with it. Tim had arranged for a proper photographer to do the business but there were many amateur ones taken as well. My missus’ camera’s batteries went down before we could even take one so for now I have had to rely on Sophie’s iPhone snaps. When the official pics become available I will put them on the Blog.

Karl could remember his Under 11 days and the get together they had at Atherton Cricket Club. He is one of the players in the Championship winning team who went all the way through our system starting with the Primary team in 1998 and 1999. He even took a copy of the Booklet away with him.

In the list of 50 plus scores he features four times

Karl Brown 74 v  Kent in 1998

Karl Brown 74 v Sussex in 1999

Karl Brown 67 v Derbyshire in 1999

Karl Brown 63 v Staffordshirein 1999

He was ninth in the all-time list of run scorers in a season

621 Philip Neville in 1988

550 Andrew Flintoff in 1989

520 Michael Brown in 1991

455 Jonathan Clare in 1997

431 Callum Parkinson in 2008

417 Haseeb Hameed in 2007

416 Andrew Flintoff  in 1988

395 Keith Barker  in 1998

384 Karl Brown in 1999

Thanks Karl for making everyone’s night last night and good luck in Sri Lanka in the New Year.

Can anyone tell me who else from the 2011 County Championship squad went all the way through from the Primary Squad. ???

Tim – Brilliant !!  No we did not win the quiz.

I have been to headquarters today to see Andy Hayhurst. When I came out of his office to go home I found Dipesh and Titch having a little laugh. I had been telling them about how much I was enjoying doing the blog and that I might just be ready to try some movies.

They had been seeking something “appropriate” and played it for me.

Dipesh has even shown me how to provide a link on the website. If I get it right then the link at the bottom of the page should work.

Right now I need to upload the blog, dust myself off and get up to Walshaw and collect Tom and take him to guess where – Old Trafford – and his first net Skills Net Session.

John there are many of the Lancashire winning team that have come through the LSCA/LCB set up but the only one I can think of is Kyle Hogg. There may be one or two others.
