Vernon Carus CC - 3 Peaks Challenge 2012
Over the Jubilee weekend 9 members from Vernon Carus Cricket Club took part in a sponsored National 3 Peaks Challenge, which comprises of climbing Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (Lake District) and Snowdon (Wales) in under 24 hours including the drive in between!
The reason for the challenge was to raise funds so the club can replace their artificial practice wicket, which is approximately 16 years old.
8 of the party were doing the walking and 1 was a designated driver, to allow the walkers time to sleep between the mountains. All of the walkers completed the challenge in under the 24 hours target and our thanks go to everyone that sponsored the challenge, with sponsorship bringing in over £1,500.
Challenge organiser Mark Cookson said: “It was a great effort by all the team to complete the challenge in under the 24 hours target.”
He also praised the efforts of the driver Mick Dears by saying: “I am sure I speak for all the walkers when giving thanks to Mick. This challenge could not have happened without him doing all the driving.”
Thanks also goes too one of the cricket club’s Chance to Shine linked high schools, Priory Sports and Technology College, in allowing the use of their school mini bus for the challenge.
The 3 Peakers were: Mark Cookson, Alex Atkinson, Alex Knowles, Jane Meloy, Dan Sheridan, Ian Marsh, Brian Harris and Alex Goldman.
