Whalley Range CC Players Win More Awards
Whalley Range CC ended the best season in its history by winning more awards and cups at the Manchester Association End of Season Awards event on 9 October.
Ejaz Din was named U18s Player of the Season and picked up the Val Scerri Cup. Ejaz opened the bowling for the 1st XI and took 39 wickets at 16 years of age. Batting usually at 6, he scored 577 runs at 36.06, including his maiden century v Wythenshawe in the cup. He led WRCC U18s to the SC Reakes Trophy and also captained the Association U18s team to victory v Bolton Association, scoring an unbeaten 74. Ejaz is now studying Sports Management at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Mansha Khan was named 2nd Division Player of the Season jointly with Swinton’s Simon Halsall. A hugely experienced player, having pro’d at various clubs in the area over the years, Mansha has been at Whalley Range CC for three seasons now and this year took 36 wickets at 11.45, plus 410 runs at 37.27. His batting included some prodigious and brutal hitting, with a memorable 14-ball 50 at Swinton and a century v Newton Heath.
Paul Davies accepted the Aggregate Cup (most combined points from all three divisions) on behalf of the club, to take our total cups to a remarkable 8 this season.
Whalley Range CC has also been invited to parade its trophies at the Manchester Sports Awards dinner on Friday 25 October, where they will be displayed alongside the Barclays Premier League Football Trophy.
