Skelmersdale CC Run Successful Open Day
Last Sunday, Skelmersdale CC held its first ever Club ‘Open Day’ aimed at attracting more juniors players and families to the club.
Skelmersdale CC boasts one of the best facilities in the area and run 3 x Senior Teams who play in the Liverpool & District Cricket Competition and 4 x Junior Teams that play their cricket in the Southport & District Amateur Cricket League. The club are always looking to increase membership both in the number of juniors but also in the number of families coming to the Club.
The Open Day which was endorsed and supported by the Lancashire Cricket Board and attracted ‘new’ and existing members to take part in some active training / coaching sessions. It also presented the opportunity to show the new members what the Club had to offer them. Lanky made an appearance to support the day giving some valuable coaching tips!
Prior to the Open Day the Club had actively marketed itself to all the local Primary and Secondary Schools, plus various local groups who work with young people in and around the Skelmersdale area.
At the end of the day Bill Regan (Junior Club Co-ordinator and Vice President) thanked both James Cutt (LCB's Cricket Development Co-ordinator for West Lancashire) and Paul Bryson (LCB's Clubs & Leagues Manager) for their active support leading to and on the day, but more importantly to the volunteers from the club who helped ensure the day ran smoothly and successfully. He also had a special mention for the young people and their parents asking them to go away and tell their friends about the club and encourage them to come down and get involved.
As a pre-season warm up, the Club will be holding 2 x Indoor Sessions on the 8th and 15th April between 7pm and 8pm at Glenburn High School for any interested young people that want to attend.
Training outdoors starts on 22nd April running every Tuesday until mid-August between 6.30pm and 8.00pm at the club's main ground on Firwood Park / Scott Rees Park, Blaguegate Lane, Lathom, Skelmersdale, WN8 8TY.
