Lancashire U15s played their second game in the ECB Royal London competition on Sunday June 8th.

The match was against Yorkshire at Pudsey Congs Cricket Club.

On arrival the teams found the ground to be very wet following heavy rain on Saturday. Water had got under the covers leaving a wicket with wet and dry patches.

After a pitch inspection at 11:00am it was decided to take an early lunch at 12:15 and start at 1:00.

Lancashire won the toss and decided to bowl first in a 40 over game.

From the very start the bowlers showed a marked improvement on our last performance and had the openers in trouble on a difficult wicket.

The fielding was also sharp and this put pressure on the batting side which led to them losing wickets at regular intervals. This was also helped by Sam Oldham's captaincy, moving fielders around to keep the batsmen in check. Only one batsman scored over 20, this being Bilal Anjam (57) who showed throughout the game that he is a top class all round cricketer.

All six bowlers had excellent figures but the stand out feature of this session was the wicket keeping of Dom Gowers. He had three excellent stumping victims and a brilliant catch stood up to Tom Lawson off the new ball.

Yorkshire finished on 134 for 8 off 40 overs.

A confident Lancashire side started their innings with some good running between the wickets mixed with good shots dispatching any bad ball for four.

The openers Cornall (51) and Billington (36) put on a 100 partnership seemingly having the game won when the expected rain arrived and the players left the field.

This caused confusion in the teams as the best 'run rate' comes into play if the game is rained off. On resumption of play Lancashire had to try and keep in front of the rate and in doing so batsmen sacrificed their wickets.

However, no more rain came and the win was achieved with 16 balls remaining.

It is important to stress here the work of Myra and John Isterling who helped the team to victory with their excellent scoring knowledge and keeping us up to date with the run rate.

Lancashire finished on 135 for 7 off 37.2 overs.
