Lancs Over 50s Beat Cheshire
Lancashire Over 50s triumph over Cheshire at Formby CC on Wednesday 16 July.
In a match where the weather was going to play a part, Lancashire won the toss and elected to bat.
A quick start saw G Bullock race to 41, when a rain break of over an hour reduced the match to 42 overs per side. The ever reliable P Sutcliffe went for 55 trying to push the score along. Lancs eventually closed on an excellent 240 for 7, John Punchard 34 and Tony Bennett 33.
Lancashires bowlers took up the challenge and being able to bowl with a dry ball proved significant. Regular Cheshire wickets were taken backed by good fielding. Only Cheshire captain G Cash looked at ease with 70 runs scored, however once he was dismissed the match was over. Cheshire closed on 186 all out. Pick of the Lancashire bowlers were P Deakin 2 for 22, C Dearden 2 for 23, K Roscoe 2 for 41 and J.Punchard 3 for 26.
Yorkshire have won the group but Durham, Cheshire and Lancashire have all finished with 20 points. On net run rate Lancashire Over 50s finished third and the reward for this is a Last 16 match against Suffolk at Ipswich CC on Sunday 27 July (a 460 miles round trip).
