Lancs Over 50s go out at the Quarter Final stage
Lancs Over 50s lost to Surrey at storm lashed Formby CC yesterday (10/08/2014).
Surrey won the toss and not surprisingly asked Lancs to bat.
A fine start between C Lord and P Sutcliffe with an opening partnership of 41. M Ingham and C Dearden with a stand of 71 before Dearden being given out LBW for 41. Rain interuptions did not help the home side to gain any momentum. Also the reduction of overs meant some big hitting was needed. J Punchard 16, T Bennett 10 and P Deakin with 2 sixes and 2 fours in his 10 ball stay, along with M Ingham 59 not out took Lancs to 204 for 6.
More rain and a revised total of 172 in 33 overs made Surrey the favourites. The visitors kept the scoreboard moving at 5 an over just below the asking rate. No more rain meant Surrey could build their innings and gained momentum. They won in the 30th over finishing on 174 for 4. Lancashire kept going all the way to the end in very difficult conditions, N Doyle 2 for 41, J Punchard 1 for 25 and P Deakin 1 for 44 the pick of the bowlers.
Lancashire bow out of the ECB 50+ County Competition and wish Surrey well in the Semi Finals.
