Lancashire Incrediball squad triumphed as National Champions after beating Derbyshire in a closely fought final at Leamington Spa CC on Sunday 11 September.

Derbyshire won the toss and invited Lancashire to bat first. Lancashire started badly losing 3 wkts for only 4 runs and then Captain Tony Foster had to leave the crease having suffered a back spasm.

This brought together Pat Scott and 17 year old Stefan Holmes who proceeded to rebuild the innings until Stefan was run out with score on 63 for 4 having scored 28 in a partnership of 60 runs.

Another cheap wicket fell which brought Alan Foster to the crease, who supported Pat Scott in a partnership of 30 until holing out for 4 with the score on 98 for 6. Captain Tony Foster returned back to the crease, but lost Pat Scott next over for 42 and the score at 98 for 7. The tail wagged to take Lancashire to 136 all out from 39.2 overs.

The pick of the Derbyshire bowlers was Adam Darkins with figures of 8-4-10-2.

Overall Lancashire felt they were 20 runs short but felt confident of defending their total.

Derbyshire took to the crease and were soon in trouble at 34 for 3 with Callum Savage and Adam Wilson taking early wickets. Derbyshire’s Scott Matthews then came to the crease with the score at 37 for 4 and supported by Andrew Gillott moved the score on to 94 for 5. The wicket of Scott Matthews (73) brought out the fighting qualities of the Lancashire team. Stefan Holmes and Callum Savage were brought back into the attack and bowled Derbyshire out for 130 to scenes of jubilation from the Lancashire team. The pick of the Lancashire bowlers were Callum Savage with figures of 8-1-17-4, Stefan Holmes 3-12-0-2 and Adam Wilson 3-0-17-2.

A fantastic game of cricket played in great spirit by both teams and the perfect end to the season for the squad that has worked so hard to improve their own skills and team ethic.

The LCB would like to congratulate the Lancashire Incrediball squad on this excellent achievement.
