Bury U11s Boys District Take Bob Hurst U11s Rosebowl 2013
On Tuesday 27th August Bury District Cricket U11s took on a very talented Wigan District side in the final of the prestigious Bob Hurst Rose Bowl 2013 District Cricket Cup Final at the lovely venue of Newton Le Willows CC.
Bury won an important toss and decided to bat. Openers Aaaryman Roy (46) & JJ Fielding (16) took Bury to a 50 plus partnership, with help from Oliver Pilkington (33) & Owen Halstead (21) amongst others, Bury reached an impressive 188 for 8 off 40 overs.
Wigan got off to a rocky start with some confusion between batters resulting in two unneccesary run outs. Middle order batsmen steadied the ship for them and they made a valant effort late on, helped by some indifferent bowling, which consisted of a dissapointing 54 extras from the Bury side. Bury's wicketkeeper Lleyton Belston had to work extremely hard for 49 overs, however a change of bowling finally saw off the Wigan batsmen, as Jack Doyle slowed the rate down with 5 overs 0 for 20 & Matthew Hall 8 overs 2 wickets for 24 runs.
Team Manager, Paul Belston of Bury Cricket Development Group said: "The last ten overs were a tense affair but a large crowd saw a great exhibition of cricket between two teams who played in the spirit of cricket, whilst producing a competitive and enthralling game resulting in Bury becoming Champions for the second time in three years. This bodes well for all our clubs in the District of Bury!"
