Haseeb Hameed & Emma Lamb named Young Players of the season for 2012.

Haseeb Hameed, Lancashire’s U15 right hand batsman was named the “Cedric Rhoades Player of the Season” for boys and Emma Lamb, Lancashire’s U15 all rounder (top order batter and medium pace bowler) was named the Player for the Season for girls.

Both Haseeb and Emma received their awards for 2012 at Lancashire Cricket Board (LCB) Development of Excellence Presentation Evening on Wednesday 12th September. The LCB and Lancashire Schools Cricket Association (LSCA) held their End of Season Awards function for their Representative Youth teams in The Point at the Lancashire County Cricket Club, with 650 players, parents, guests and officials in attendance.

Haseeb, aged 15, performed outstandingly well for the County teams at U15s, U16s and U17s levels. He made some notable performances including centuries against Nottinghamshire (113) and Durham (100 not out). He also represented the ECB North of England U15s in the Bunbury Festival where he scored a century against the South West of England region (136 not out). These performances helped him gain selection for the England Development Programme of which he is one of only ten players selected throughout the country at the U16 level. Haseeb plays his club cricket at Farnworth Social Circle CC and is at Bolton School.

Emma has had a run-filled season with Lancashire U15s, U17s and the County Women Senior Team. She has scored a total 717 runs at an average of 47.8. She got her maiden half century for first team against Netherlands (62), 4 more half centuries for the junior county teams and a century against Derbyshire at U15 level (104 not out). She was also selected for the England Women Development Programme at U15s level and players involved are deemed to be the top girls at U15 level in the Country with EWDP U15 the first rung on the England Women's Player Pathway. Emma plays her club cricket at Vernon Carus CC and goes to St Michael’s CE High School, Chorley.

It was an additionally special evening as the Lancashire U15s Boys, U13s Girls and U17s Girls won their respective ECB County Championship. All 3 squads were presented with their National Championship Trophy during the evening.

The evening is aimed at celebrating and congratulating all involved with the Lancashire junior county age group squads, from players through to coaches and officials through to volunteers / parents.

Trophies were also presented to those players who achieved significant milestones during the season including centuries, 5-wicket hauls / victims, hat-tricks and outstanding wicket-keeping performances (see the recipients of Trophies below).

Lancashire Cricket Board’s Managing Director Andrew Hayhurst presented the evening with John Heaton (Lancashire Schools Cricket Association Secretary) and John Stanworth (Academy Director). Guests of honour were: Geoff Ogden (Development of Excellence Chairman), Mike Watkinson (LCCC Cricket Director) and Stephen Parry (LCCC Player).

Andrew Hayhurst (LCB Director) commented: “On behalf of the Lancashire Cricket Board I’d like to congratulate all the players that have represented Lancashire this year. These players are the best players currently playing within their age groups and we hope some of these players will go on to represent Lancashire at a senior level. I also would like to thank all the managers and coaches who help ensure these squads perform to their highest level.”

John Stanworth (LCCC Academy Director) added: “Lancashire's Representative System continues to produce players of the qualities necessary to succeed at the next level. The refinement of our system with the Emerging Player Programme and the Academy programme provide further opportunities for this to be achieved. The successful progress of local players into a very competitive Lancashire's First Team this year has been enjoyed by many. It is evidence that the process of talent identification, selection and confirmation are continuing to move in the right direction in the County. My sincere thanks to the Team Managers, coaches, administrators and volunteers who help enormously with our young cricketers.”

John Heaton (LSCA) further commented: “This evening has been the biggest yet with around 650 players and guests in attendance in The Point. It was great to see the “family” of Lancashire Age Group cricket all gather together under one roof to celebrate the season and enjoy the successes.”

Stephen Titchard (LCB Performance Manager) finally commented: “Lancashire cricket has always had a strong passion and culture. The next generation of cricketers have a major role in promoting these values. The evening represented a chance for all players, parents and officials to celebrate what has been an exciting season. I would like to thank everyone for their support and enthusiasm.”

Jennifer Laycock (LCB Women & Girls Cricket Development Officer) finally added: “2012 has been an excellent season for girls cricket in the County, with 2 National Titles, a 3rd place Nationally and 8 out of 9 wins for the U11 girls. This success has passed onto the 1st X1 where many of the junior players made their senior debuts this year. To add to the fixtures available to the County girls, a women’s club midweek league has been set up supporting women’s cricket at grassroots level. I would like to thank all those who have supported women and girls cricket in 2012, we are reaping the rewards of the hard work.”

Throughout the season, every player’s results, whether for their representative team, school or club were recorded in the “Level of Excellence Database”. This year saw a continuation of players entering in their figures online via a specifically designed Intranet for Excellence Cricket. These figures were then used, in conjunction with discussions between team coaches and managers, to select the players of the months and year. Full list of winners from the evening are available below.
