Lancashire U11 Girls make history
History will be made by the Lancashire U11 Girls County squad this summer when they embark on a trip to Kent College in the famous city of Canterbury.
The squad was formed 3 years ago and have only played a handful of matches due to very few counties having U11 sides. However, they remain unbeaten, beating close rivals Yorkshire twice, Warwickshire and a strong U13 Girls West Lancashire District Team.
This year will be the first time the Under 11 competition in Kent will run, with a big focus on creating new fixtures, links, enjoyment, development and raising the standards girls’ cricket. This could become an annual event for the squad. Kent has a very successful girls’ junior section and they put this down to having an established Under 11 squad for many years. They are also extremely successful at senior level having four England players in the team.
They invited us to join the tournament along with Hertfordshire and Warwickshire. The girls will leave on the 1st August 2011 and spend 4 nights at the College playing against each County, developing their skills. They also hope to have some trips to the beach and visit from an England Women’s player at the tournament.
The final squad for the tour will be selected on 17th April. We will select 3 girls that didn’t make the U13s County squad in 2011 to help guide the new girls, as U12s are allowed to play in this “unofficial” tournament.
We wish them the best of luck in keeping the unbeaten run, but most of all hope they enjoy and development their game to promote girls’ cricket. Look out for a review of the tournament from the captain and the coach when they return on our website.
If anyone is able to support the girls in any way please get in touch with Jennifer Laycock on [email protected] or 07889 167048.
