U13 County Girls target one better this season
The County U13 girls began their campaign to hopefully go one better than last year and be National Champions, which evaded them last season by losing to Kent by 22 runs in the final.
Jenny Laycock takes over from Tony Potter, who has taken over as the Lancashire Senior Women head coach, and joins up with Chris Chambers to coach and manage the team together.
Friendly to start things off nicely
A friendly at Newton Le Willows CC set the girls off on the right foot where they beat Cheshire. Lancashire batted first scoring 132 for 4, with 47 from Nalisha Patel and a handy 30 from Emily Wheetman. Some tight bowling restricted Cheshire to 75 all out. 3 wickets from Abi Culshaw, some tight overs from Emily Ball and Sami Fowler created pressure resulting in wicket taking and a first win.
Success with First League Match of the season
Our first league game saw Durham travel to Read CC on a showery day. We managed to get all the overs in and the team were pleased to start the League campaign with a win. Emma Lamb was the pick of the day scoring 80*, assisted by Eleanor Threlkeld scoring 40. We posted 145 for 3 in 30 overs. Jess Nixon took a wicket with the 3rd ball of the innings, putting Lancashire in a good position from the start. Some tight bowling and energetic fielding kept the scores low and the pressure on. 3 wickets each for Maisie and Sami and 2 for Samiya meant Durham were bowled out for 53.
Lancashire continue to win at Northumberland
A trip to Northumberland was next on the cards and a wonderful sunny day met us at Blagdon Park. Lancashire batted first again and posted 154 for 4. Two great knocks from Ellie Ralston (65*) and Rachel Dickinson (48) and a quick fire 18 for Maisie Cole. The bowling and wickets were shared around but the pick of the bowlers were Ellie Ralston taking 3 wickets for 5 runs and Abie Culshaw taking 2 wickets for no runs off 3 overs. Durham were 9 wickets down off their 30 overs, scoring just 51 runs. Win number 2 for the U13s girls.
Three out of three so far
Rainford CC was the setting for game number 3. Cumbria won the toss and put us in to bat. The scorers were very busy right from the start as we were 51 off just 7 overs. Emma Lamb got off to a flyer scoring 36 runs off 9 overs before being bowled. El Threlkeld and Nalisha Patel batted well together before El fell for 39. Nalisha went on to score 53 before being caught LBW. Ellie Ralston and Rachel Dickinson took 40 off the last 5 overs posting a healthy score of 190. Nalisha starred again with the ball taking 3 wickets with her off spin. Emily Wheetman bowled very tightly taking 3 wickets for no runs off just 1.2 overs. Cumbria were bowled out for 51.
Yorkshire are up next, lets hope the winning form continues.
