Girls U13 win Battle of The Roses
Lancashire U13 girls continued their winning form against Yorkshire on Wednesday 15th June.
Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bat. Yorkshire’s Kennedy Nuttall looked good opening the batting and got ‘stuck in’ to some wayward deliveries. It was her partner who fell first to a well aimed run out from Maisie Cole. Rachel Dickinson took the next wicket, a good catch from Emma Lamb at gully reducing Yorkshire to 10 for 2. Some tight bowling from Nalisha Patel and Ellie Ralston brought about a wicket apiece. Emma Lamb who usually starts with the bat decided it was her turn to star with the ball. She took a great caught and bowled in her first over to remove Nuttall for a well deserved 25. Lamb continued to bowl well and take wickets finishing with 5 for 5 off 4 overs. Dickinson came back on to claim the final wicket leaving Yorkshire 75 all out off 29 overs.
Lancashire stepped to the crease with dark clouds looming. A slow start and the loss of Eleanor Threlkeld for just 2 meant we had work to do. Emma Lamb and Nalisha Patel kept the scoreboard ticking over and the runs began to flow. Drinks were taken at 15 overs with the scores tied on run rate and the rain inching closer. At 16.2 overs the heavens opened and play didn’t resume. Lancashire had scored a valuable 4 more runs after drinks meaning they were ahead on run rate. The game was eventually washed out leaving Lancashire the winners on run rate.
Well done to all the girls, a tough game but they rose to the challenge and with only 1 wicket down we looked set to chase the total with ease.
