U13 Girls crowned National Champions 2011
Lancashire Girls U13s have triumphed as National Champions after beating Sussex in the final today (Wednesday 31 August).
Yesterday the girls won their semi-final clash against Somerset with ease by bowling them out for 27 runs. In reply Lancashire knocked off the runs in 5 overs with no wickets lost, therefore winning by 10 wickets.
The final against Sussex was played at Denby CC today with highlights of the day's events below.
Final Highlights - as it happened
11:00: Sussex win toss and put Lancashire in to bat.
11:15: Lancashire 25 for 0 off 4 overs.
11:52: Lancashire 81 for 0 off 15 overs (half way).
12:56: Lancashire 176 for 7 off 30 overs innings closed, Emma Lamb 74.
13:54: Sussex 36 for 4.
13:59: Sussex 36 for 6 off 8 overs.
14:04: Sussex 36 for 7.
14:10: Sussex 40 for 8.
14:12: Sussex 41 for 9.
14:16: Sussex 46 all out.
Lancashire crowned National Champions for 2011.

The bowlers and fielders then set about their business, and even at 30-2 after 6 overs the writing was on the wall. Every catch was held, and run out opportunity taken, and with fielders throwing themselves across the turf to save even an odd single, the difference in athleticism between the two teams was clear, and acknowledged by even the Sussex coaches. Credit too to Ellie Ralston for her adept captaincy and field placings.
As a Leicestershire (other losing semi finalists) parent was overheard to say at the presentation- "they are a seriously good (cricket) team"
Congratulations to Tony Potter, Jenny Laycock and Chris Chambers who deserve huge credit in overseeing what I believe, is the first natonal success for Lancs women`s cricket.
