Round up week 1 of Girls Junior County
Centurian and win number 1, not a bad first week for the girls
While the boys squads haven’t been selected yet the girls county programme is off and running.
Lancashire U15s travelled to Derbyshire at Glossop CC on Wednesday 8th May and started the season with a win. Our top order managed to amass 225, a century from Emma Lamb being the highlight of the day. In just 95 balls Emma scored 108. She was well supported by Nalisha Patel (64) and Eleanor Threlkeld (24). A great way to kick off your County Age Group season, well done Emma.
In reply Derbyshire’s opener provided some consistency scoring 48 before being run out but her team mates were unable to stick around. They managed to bat the 40 overs and scored 92 for 8. Lancashire’s bowling was shared around, however it was the fielding that stood out with 3 runs out. Georgia Clough the pick of the bowlers with 4 over’s 2 for 4.
Well done girls on a great start to the season in your hunt for that finals day place!
Next game vs. Cheshire at New Brighton CC on Thursday 16th May.
The U15 girls development side are lucky enough to have been granted a place in the ECB competition and will play in the north development division alongside Durham, Cumbria and Northumberland. They were however not able to start their season yet as Tuesday game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. Fingers crossed the girls manage to start their season next week vs. Northumberland at Read cc on 21st May.
The U13s girls start their season on Friday at Trimpell CC with a friendly against Cumbria. This is becoming an annual event and has been a great event in years gone by. We involve as many of the squad as possible and all the girls play with a smile on their face. The U13s have another friendly on Tuesday 21st vs. Cheshire @ Leigh CC and then the real cricket starts! National Champions 2 years running, big shoes to fill but the girls are on the right track so far with their winter preparations.
The 1st X1 see Staffordshire travel North to Leigh CC on Sunday 19th May. Both teams having wins under their belt so far it will be an excellent game to watch I’m sure. With the result last year Staffordshire win by 10 runs and the year before staffs win by 1 run, Lancashire are looking to turn the tables.
Squad for Sundays game;
Till (wkt), Titmuss (capt), Cross, Walsh, Laycock. Brown, Fairclough, Doshi, Marshall, Holmes, Wallwork, Lamb
