Performance Group U15 Girls T20 Competition At Northern CC
The T20 tournament for girls U15 County squads is in its second year and winners from 2012, host county Lancashire were hoping to retain the regional title. The teams this year were Lancashire, Shropshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire.
Day 1: Albeit some rain during the day we managed to complete both games and didn’t lose any over’s throughout the day.
Fixture 1: Lancashire vs. Cheshire (pitch 1)
Lancashire were asked to bat first and at 29 for 1 off 7 the girls knew they would need to step up the pace to post a decent score to defend. Two good stumping’s and a catch at square leg left Lancashire 49 for 3 off 12. Up stepped Shachi Pai, she picked up the singles well and put the bad ball away. 45 balls later Shachi closes the innings with a 4 to bring up her 50. Lancashire posted 117 for 3 off their 20 overs.
An early wicket for Cheshire brought hard hitting Ellie Mason to the crease where, at just 13 she struck 63 off 65 balls to put the pressure on Lancashire. Unfortunately wickets fell at the other end and Cheshire fell 14 runs short.
Fixture 1: Staffordshire vs. Shropshire (Pitch 2)
Awaiting report. Shropshire beat Staffordshire.
Fixture 2: Cheshire vs. Staffordshire (Pitch 2)
Staffordshire won the toss and asked Cheshire to have a bat. Wickets fell regularly with only Sophie Ecclestone (18) and Annie Mills (26) making inroads. Naomi Dale took 3 wickets and stand in wicket keeper Lucy Kelsall took 2 catches behind. Staffordshire were set 97 to win. A good start by Lucy Kelsall (42) put Staffordshire in a great position however wickets fell at the other end. 4 run outs removed the majority of the middle order and left Staffordshire 16 runs short from the 20 over’s.
Fixture 2: Lancashire vs. Shropshire (Pitch 1)
Lancashire won the toss and asked Shropshire to bat first. The Shropshire girls missed out on some early singles but ran really well at the end of the innings to finish 63 for 6 off their 20 over’s. Wickets shared around for the Lancashire girls but Hannah Jones the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 4 off 4 with her left arm spin. Shropshire struck early removing Emma Lamb and Ellie Threlkeld, both caught Humphreys bowled Cooper. Up stepped in form Shachi who finished 23* to steer the girls home with 6 over’s remaining.
Day 1 complete and with Lancashire 2 wins from 2 they had pretty much booked their place in tomorrow afternoons final. The second spot was up for grabs with Cheshire and Shropshire both winning 1 a piece.
Day 2 greeted us with rain. However with the hard work of the ground staff and the rain relenting 30 minutes before the start time we managed to start just a few minutes later than scheduled.
Fixture 3: Lancashire vs. Staffordshire (Pitch 1)
Lancashire won the toss again and asked Staffordshire to bat first. Early wickets by openers Becky Cline and Rachel Dickinson left Staffordshire struggling at 10 for 3. Sami Fowler who bowled well on day 1 without much reward came into her own today taking 4 wickets which included a hat trick. Lancashire gifted Staffordshire 20 runs through extras. Staffordshire finished 40 for 8 off their 20 over’s. Lancashire made light work of reaching 41 in under 6 over’s. Ellie Threlkeld (21) and Emma Lamb (17) ran really well together and put away the bad ball. This win ensured Lancashire’s place in the final.

Finals: Lancashire vs. Cheshire (Pitch 1)
Lancashire won the toss again and decided to keep the winning formula and bowled first. Tight bowling from the openers again rewarded the girls with 3 early wickets. Sophie Eccleston (17) and Ellie Mason (15) top scored for Cheshire who were only able to muster 55 all out. Wickets spread out with Rachel Dickinson the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 14 off 4.
