Mawdesley CC Receive £98,500
Mawdesley CC in Chorley, who play in the Moore & Smalley Palace Shield, are celebrating an award of a grant and loan from the England & Wales Cricket Trust (EWCT).
The EWCT’s grant aid programme aims to finance capital projects, including renovations to improve facilities which contribute to sustaining and increasing participation. Mawdesley Cricket Club was identified by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Lancashire Cricket Board as a club of strategic importance and because of the strength of their junior development programme.
The EWCT made a grant of £55,500 and an Interest Free Loan of £43,000. The total project of developing their new pavilion will cost approximately £220,000 and completion of the project will be in advance of next season.
Mawdesley Cricket Club’s Secretary, Martin Lewis, said: “We were delighted when we were awarded the grant because this made it possible to go ahead with the new pavilion project. We have been fundraising for 2 years as we urgently needed to upgrade our pavilion and dressing room facilities. The old pavilion has been demolished and the new pavilion will be on the same site and will comprise of 2 new large changing rooms, each with internal showers and toilet facilities, an Umpires’ room, kitchen and social area. In addition there will be separate toilet facilities for spectators and also facilities for people with disabilities. The pavilion is being built to ECB Technical Specifications.”
Paul Bryson, Clubs and Leagues Manager for the LCB, added: "This development represents a new chapter in the life of Mawdesley Cricket Club. It allows the club to make their facilities as welcoming and accessible as possible to members, players and spectators. Having high quality cricket facilities accessible to the community will be key to sustaining participation in grass roots cricket over the coming years."
Further update on their development will be provided, in the mean time please find images of the work carried out so far by downloading the PDF files below.
