Hutton Grammar School & Penwotham CC successful in obtaining Lord's Taverners grant

Players from Hutton Grammar School & Penwortham Cricket Club were delighted with the new artificial wicket installed at the school this summer, with the help of a Lord’s Taverners grants scheme.

Club Chairman, David Boardman, said: “We are very appreciative of the excellent cricket partnership with Hutton Grammar School. The school has a strong sporting tradition, including cricket, with many pupils both past & present, being members at the Club. Our 3rd & 4th teams are used to introduce and develop junior players into senior cricket; playing all their home fixtures on the school sports fields. In addition a reciprocal arrangement is in place for the school to use our ground, whenever there is a need.”

David further commented: “Without the Schools support it would have been extremely difficult to successfully run the two extra teams on a Saturday. To make it possible, however, a new playing surface was urgently needed and the Club, in conjunction with Graham Aitchison, Head of PE, applied to The Lord Taverners for grant support. The club raised the additional funds needed and the project was able to proceed to the benefit of both parties, who should hopefully enjoy the new facility for many years to come.”

Graham Aitchison (Head of PE at Hutton Grammar School) said: “The relationship between the school and Penwortham Cricket Club has been running for many years and this joint facility continues to strengthen the partnership. Our boys are very fortunate with the amount of junior cricket available in the area, particularly at clubs like Penwortham. We see the joint use of the artificial wicket as a great way to develop the boys' skills learned at school and in the clubs into senior cricket.”
