Week 7 and 8 County Girls Fixtures
More rain hits Lancashire but we keep smiling as the U13 and U15 come away with wins
Week 7 started well with U13 travelling to Cheshire and returning with a win. Georgina Bolton (37) and Neve Nizinkiewicz-Steel )(22) starred with the bat taking us to 103 for 7 off 35. A slightly below par score however on a wet wicket and slow outfield we were confident in defending it. Some tight bowling and good catches we dismissed Cheshire for just 40, 20 of which were extras - something the Lancashire girls are working hard to reduce. Some exceptional bowling figures were returned by Hannah Jones, 2 for 2 off 7 and Emily Weetman 3 for 0 off 4. Well done girls, a good all round performance.
U15s were scheduled to play on Friday 22nd June however the rain came and we had to call the game off on Thursday night.
Week 8, with 3 possible games this week fingers were crossed for some dry weather. Tuesday saw the development U15s take on Shropshire at Read CC. A wet weekend meant a wet ground for Tuesday however we got one innings in before the rain arrived. Lancashire batted first and scored 128 for 9 off 40 overs. A good improvement from last time as we managed to bat the overs out and post a respectable score. One over was bowled in return and then the rain arrived and the game had to be abandoned.
Lancashire U15s travelled to Nottinghamshire in search of their second game and second win of the season. Nalisha Patel led from the front, winning the toss and asking Notts to bat first. Notts were only able to post 91 all out off 41 overs due to some exceptional bowling from Nalisha 5 for 8 off 8, supported by Rachel Dickinson 3 for 12 off 6 and the rest of the bowlers (9 used in total). The batting went to plan and with a stand of 80 for the first wicket between Nalisha (30) and Hannah Till (35*) the game was pretty much won when we lost Nalisha and Jess Bradley. Emma Lamb (10*) and Hannah Till saw the game home in 21 overs. A great win for the girls and they will look forward to Yorkshire in the next 2 weeks.
The floods were hitting Lancashire hard on Thursday but the U13s travelled south to the Shropshire countryside. With a huge crowd, made up mainly of cows the Lancashire girls won the toss and elected to bat. Posting 144 we knew we had a chance, good contributions from Ellie Threlkeld, Tasha Fenton, Hannah Jones and Georgina Bolton. Shropshire set off well and wickets didn’t fall as quickly as the girls wanted. At drinks, Shropshire were 50 for 1 with 2 batters well set. Ellie Threlkeld kept her head as captain, changed the bowling around and although runs were flowing eventually the wickets fell. Georgina Bolton was the pick of the bowlers taking 2 wickets for 3 runs in 3 overs. Shropshire finished on 110 for 9 off 35 overs. A good win for the girls and a good battle for the bowlers and captain alike.
