Women's Midweek League expands for 2013
12 teams now make up the midweek league, 3 groups of 4, should see plenty of women playing in 2013
The season is fast approaching and the women's game within Lancashire is growing. The mid-week league that began in 2012 with 8 teams is expanding and will, for 2013 incorporate 12 teams. This is a great step up for the women's game as it will provide an exit route for younger girls to progress into a senior environment, females coming back to the game and women wanting to experience the game for the first time. The teams and their main contact are below.
Jen Laycock, Women and Girls CDO explains the concept - The midweek league was set up last year to provide a competitive environment for females to play cricket. The players, some new to the game, some junior players and some returning to the game would have the chance to play short format of the game, combining a social atmosphere with a fun and competitive one. Many teams in 2012 struggled for players and are always on the look out for new people to join in and have a go. The games run between the end of June and the end of August, 16-20 overs a side and emphasis on participation and enjoyment.
Anyone interested in getting involved, this can be playing, umpiring, scoring or general volunteering get in touch with the team local to yourself or contact Jen Laycock centrally on email@example.com. Full contact list available to the right.
